Just a note about what happens when you need to leave a Blackboard test due to an emergency.

Many instructors use a setting when creating a test in Blackboard that forces the test to finish if it is not completed (i.e. your computer reboots, browser crashes, or a fire alarm goes off in an open use lab causing a forced logout). The result of this is you cannot log back into myUSF and pick up the test where you left off. If you find yourself in this situation the first and most important person to contact is your Instructor. He/She is the only person with the power to reset your test. It is important to document the time and reason for quitting the test unexpectedly. If the incident happened in an Open Use Lab on campus, ask for the lab attendants to help with documenting the exact cause of the incident. Otherwise, make sure to keep your own detailed notes with time, date, and location. For the more technically oriented of you out there, an IP address is also helpful. A good practice would be to note these things before beginning any test — just in case. This is especially true of dial-up connections. Make sure to forward any information you have to the Instructor along with your request to reset the test.

It’s important to note that this information is about resetting exams, not providing an extension on the deadline. Unless the new version of Blackboard is different, instructors cannot set separate deadlines for individual students. That would be a great feature, but I don’t think it exists yet.

We’ve received a lot of email and comments concerning classes not appearing in myUSF. Most often, that is due to the student’s record in OASIS not showing the student as actively enrolled. This often occurs when there are late payments etc. that cause the student to become temporarily disabled in a course until the registration information is corrected. Check OASIS and contact registration if you experience this problem. If everything looks good with regard to this, contact our help desk at 974-122 or at http://www.acomp.usf.edu/group/help/ for assistance.

If you are a faculty member and your classes are not appearing, check with your department to be sure that you are listed as the instructor (not the ubiquitous “Staff”). If this is the case and your classes still do not appear you can also contact the help desk for assistance.

Yeah, some good points made, however there are always two sides to a story so I’m not sure I completely agree.
