When students register for classes, their enrollment is automatically added to myUSF/Blackboard and an email account is created. However, in order to receive e-mail in that account, students need to activate their email account at https://una.usf.edu. This process allows the student to create a password for myUSF/Blackboard login and activate the email account.

Please note that the email sent to students who have not yet activated their e-mail accounts is not deliverable and will bounce back.

The 4th Annual Blackboard Southeast Users Group (BbSEUG) Conference, hosted this year by the University of North Florida, will be held Wednesday, February 28th through Friday March 2nd, 2007. The conference will take place at the Sea Turtle Inn, an oceanfront resort in Atlantic Beach, Florida.

As in previous years, the BbSEUG Conference 2007 provides the opportunity for people in K-12 and higher education in the US southeast (and beyond!) to share ideas and to learn more about what others are doing around the region with regard to training, instructional design, system administration, and other Blackboard-related issues.

The Program Committee for the 2007 BbSEUG Conference invites you to submit a proposal for a presentation at the conference by January 19, 2007.

Please visit the BbSEUG Conference 2007 Website for details.

We believe to have identified and resolved the cause of the degradation in performance. All myUSF/Blackboard services have been fully restored as of 6:30PM this evening.

We share your discontent and frustration with the recent unresponsiveness of the system. We have escalated the case with Blackboard Support and continue to work with them and with Oracle Support to address the causes of the problem.

The performance issues we all experienced yesterday were caused by a bug in the Oracle database which serves Blackboard. Upon discussing the situation with Oracle Support, a patch was received to address this bug. The Oracle patch was installed successfully. myUSF/Blackboard was back online at 9:45 PM, after 1:45 of downtime.

Even though we are in a better position with respect to performance than yesterday, we are far from optimal. We continue to work with Oracle and Blackboard to identify and resolve the cause(s) of the database degradation.
